WHO Assistant Director General
When interviewed via Skype by Hong Kong’s RTHK News, he was asked whether the WHO would consider Taiwan’s membership . He faked not hearing the question, but prompted the interviewer to skip that question and move on to her next question anyway. When the interviewer repeated her previous question about Taiwan, Aylward hung up the call.
After being called back, the interviewer insisted on having him talking specifically about how Taiwan handled the coronavirus situation. Visibly upset, his CCP-endorsed response was: “Well, we have already talked about China, and when you look across all the different areas of China, they’ve actually all done quite a good job”. He then proceeded to thank the interviewer, and hurriedly ended the interview once again. Quite obviously, people who are not under the political pressure of the CCP do not fear or avoid mentioning the word Taiwan.
The video spread across Twitter and other platforms, collecting millions of views. The pushback against Bruce Aylward was so intense that the WHO began deleting delete proof that Aylward even worked at the WHO, despite being a senior member (we had the page saved in advance ).
